The Storyteller’s Edge: Camillia Dass
Writer. Editor. Advocate. Camillia Dass doesn’t just report on the industry—she helps move it forward, one story at a time.
Leading with Story
At the heart of Camillia Dass’s work is a simple belief: storytelling builds connection. As the APAC Editor at PRovoke Media, she’s known for turning complex topics into compelling narratives—whether it’s about brand strategy, social justice, or mental health.
“When I talk about something close to my heart, I always start with a story,” she says. “It draws people in. It makes them care.” That emotional entry point is what transforms a message into something meaningful. It also shapes a personal brand that people remember.
A Voice That Adapts
Camillia’s career has taken her across luxury, lifestyle, tech, and trade media, but her voice has remained unmistakably hers. Living with ADHD, she often finds herself exploring five different topics at once—and it’s made her highly adaptable.
She’s learned to balance her personal passions with each publication’s focus. When she moved into trade journalism, she worried that her love for topics like mental health and gender equity might not fit. Instead, she reframed them. A racially charged political moment became a lesson in crisis communications. A personal anecdote turned into a teachable moment for brands. It’s all about knowing how to shift the lens while staying true to the message.
Redefining Success
For a long time, Camillia thought success meant getting the title. Once she became an editor, she realised the real measure of success was impact.
Her proudest moments haven’t been about job titles or bylines. They’ve been about mentoring young writers, fighting for stories that matter, and creating space for diverse voices. “Anyone can be given a title,” she says. “But not everyone uses it to make things better.”

The Piece That Changed Everything
The most personal story Camillia has ever written came early in her career. In 2016, while interning at Youth.SG, she pitched a bold idea: a documentary-style series on what happens after we die.
She followed an undertaker to a real funeral, with permission from the family, and later received the rare opportunity to witness and film a live embalming. It was intense, emotional, and completely unforgettable. “It was terrifying but humbling. I’ll never forget how carefully that life was handled,” she says.
The story went viral. Embalmers told her they started getting job inquiries after the piece ran. Years later, she wrote a poem about the experience that was published in Asingbol, a Singaporean poetry anthology. The original article may no longer be online, but the experience shaped her forever.
Still Curious, Still Creating
Camillia has spent most of her career asking questions—but there’s one she wishes more people would ask her: why she does what she does. The answer is simple. She loves it. Whether she’s writing about culture, technology, or inclusion, she’s driven by a desire to open minds and shift perspectives.
Her writing is personal, intentional, and brave. And while the platforms may change, her mission hasn’t: to use her voice for stories that matter.
Final Thoughts
After more than a decade in the industry, Camillia is proof that when you write with honesty, people don’t just read. They remember.
