From Stroke to Strength: Why Every Step Counts for Terence Ang
For most of us, 3 km is nothing more than a morning stroll. For Terence Ang, author and stroke survivor, it’s a mountain.
A Walk That Feels Like Everest
“Walking 3 km may seem ordinary to others, but every step is proof that recovery is possible and courage can grow even in the face of fear,” Terence shares. “Resilience is built one step at a time — not in leaps, but in the quiet determination to keep moving forward despite setbacks.”
Turning Words Into Action
Terence’s poetry memoir Thunderstroke captured his inner journey: the shock of a stroke, the silence that followed, and the eventual strength to rise again. His fundraising campaign for SOFS 2025 carries that story into real life.
“Together, they show that my identity is not only about surviving a stroke, but about transforming pain into purpose. Stories — whether written or lived — can spark change.”

“…the raw, unpolished parts of my journey — the falls, the fears, the frustrations”
The Power of Vulnerability
Before his stroke, Terence thought strength meant never cracking. Today, his brand and advocacy lean on honesty. “True strength begins with admitting what is broken. By showing the raw, unpolished parts of my journey — the falls, the fears, the frustrations — I hope people see that vulnerability isn’t weakness, but the first step toward rebuilding strength.”
A Milestone Walk, A Milestone Year
SOFS 2025 marks the event’s 10th anniversary. For Terence, it’s also the first time he will attempt the 3 km walk. “The 10th anniversary of SOFS is about community resilience, and for me, walking 3 km for the first time is about personal resilience. Both prove that time, support, and determination can turn fear into progress.”

“even in imperfection, we can find strength, courage, and a reason to keep going”
Authenticity Above All
At the heart of Terence’s journey is authenticity — sharing both the victories and the struggles.
“Inspiration doesn’t come from pretending everything is perfect. It comes from showing that even in imperfection, we can find strength, courage, and a reason to keep going.”
As Terence puts it best: “Every step counts when courage, vulnerability, and hope walk together. 3 km may be a stroll to you — to me, it’s Everest. Walk with me, support the cause, and help every step inspire.”
